Stealth Transfer
Stealth Transfer is a fast peer-to-peer file sharing tool built into Stealth Windows. Send any file or folder to anyone else running Stealth using a short 8-character key - no email, no link, no signup.
How It Works
- You generate (or reuse) an 8-character alphanumeric transfer key
- The recipient enters your key in their Stealth Transfer window
- You select files and click Send - they upload through the Stealth transfer server
- The recipient gets an incoming-transfer prompt and accepts or declines
- Files download to the recipient's chosen download folder
The transfer server only forwards data; transfer keys are short-lived and rotate (or persist) based on your settings.
Opening Stealth Transfer
Open from Settings → Tools → Stealth Transfer. The window has three tabs:
- Send - share files
- Receive - wait for incoming transfers and view your transfer key
- History - recent sends and receives
Your Transfer Key
Your 8-character key identifies your Stealth instance to the transfer server. Both Send and Receive tabs display it with a one-click copy button.
Two modes (set in Settings):
- Persistent key - same key across sessions; convenient for repeated transfers with the same person
- New key each session - key rotates on every app launch; better for one-off transfers
Sending Files
Selecting Files
Three ways to attach files to a send:
- Click Select Files for the standard file picker
- Drag and drop files anywhere in the window - there's a global drop zone
- Paste with Ctrl+V - works for files copied in Explorer
You can attach multiple files in one transfer and add an optional comment the recipient will see in their incoming prompt.
Sending
- Enter the recipient's 8-character key
- Add files
- Optionally type a message
- Click Send
A progress indicator shows upload status. Recipients receive an incoming notification and can accept or decline.
Receiving Files
Listening
Open the Receive tab. Stealth polls the transfer server every ~30 seconds for incoming files addressed to your key. Click Check for Files to poll immediately.
Incoming Transfer Modal
When someone sends you files, a modal appears with:
- Sender's transfer key
- File list with sizes
- Sender's optional message
- Accept or Decline
Accepting downloads the files to your configured download folder with a progress indicator. Recent downloads appear in a list with Open Folder shortcuts.
History Tab
View your recent sends and receives. Each row shows date, peer key, file list, and status. Use Clear History to wipe the list.
Settings
| New key each session | Rotates your transfer key on every launch |
| Encrypt transfers | Applies AES encryption to file payloads |
| Auto-accept incoming transfers | Skips the accept prompt for trusted environments |
| Notifications | Desktop notification when a transfer arrives |
| Download path | Folder where accepted files are saved (browse to change) |
| Enable module | Master toggle for the entire Stealth Transfer module |
Security
- Transfer keys are short-lived 8-character alphanumeric strings - share them through any secure channel
- Auto-accept should only be used on personal machines you control
- Optional encrypt-transfers setting applies AES protection to file payloads
- Files only stay on the server long enough for the recipient to download them, then are removed
Use Cases
- Quick send between your own machines
- Sharing files with a teammate without going through email or cloud storage
- Receiving files from a friend running Stealth without exposing their identity to a third-party service
- Sending sensitive documents that you don't want to live on a third-party file host
Troubleshooting
- Recipient sees "no files found" - they must have entered your transfer key exactly; keys are case-sensitive
- Transfer never starts - verify both sides have Stealth Transfer enabled in Settings
- Slow transfers - the transfer server is the bottleneck for large files; consider compressing first
- Drag-drop not working - Stealth Transfer ships with a non-elevated helper window so Explorer drops work even when Stealth is running elevated. If drag-drop still fails, restart Stealth
- Auto-accept not working - make sure you've enabled both "Auto-accept" AND "Enable module" in Settings
